Ethiopia Remittance Policy and Regulatory Diagnostic

This report was prepared by the UNCDF to support the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) ongoing development of a policy and regulatory framework for remittances. The strategic objective for NBE, as for many country’s regulators, is to facilitate the transition of remittances from cash-based to digital channels, and from informal to formal ones. Recognizing the spectrum of possibilities and recommendations offered through the report, UNCDF worked closely with NBE to determine which considerations can be taken up, in what sequence, and the capacity needed from international institutions to implement the reforms.
